Welcome to Advent! The season of joy, light, and anticipation is upon us, and this year we are exploring the family story of Jesus through a series called “Roots” based on the book by Dan Wilt. There are several opportunities for you to engage with this series during Advent in your personal and family devotional time. You can request the Roots devotional book by contacting our office or order a copy on Seedbed.com. We also have Jesse Tree children’s devotionals and ornament kits available through our Children’s Ministry. Contact the church office if you would like one for your family. I encourage you to worship with us each week and attend our small group in Artz Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. There are so many ways for you to grow this Advent season, but the main goal is to make Jesus our one focus and priority.

Roots. We all come from someone, somewhere, and something. You might say we each come from a people, place, and story. Jesus has these same sorts of roots. This week in worship we will look at the origins of Jesus’ family in Genesis 32 and the story Jacob. Jacob’s twelve sons make up the tribes of Israel. His story is fascinating and teaches us to embrace both wrestling and transformation as followers of Jesus. There is wrestling and transformation in Jesus’ story, your story, and my story. This Sunday we will lean into how God is present among us through this grace-filled activity today. See you Sunday.
