The Story of David

Week 3: “David the King”
Text: 2 Samuel 5:1-5, 9-10

After Saul’s death, David is anointed in Hebron as king over Judah (2 Samuel 2) and later, David unites the tribes of Israel and is anointed again at Hebron as king of the united kingdom of Israel (2 Samuel 5). As king, David is a man of both passion and passivity. Sometimes his passion leads him to do great things – build a powerful army, unite a nation, amass wealth for the building of the Temple, etc. At other times, David neglects his family and the care of his own soul. The result is rebellion among his children, lust, and great moral failure.

We will celebrate Holy Communion at both services on August 1st.
