Serving
Ministries
The First Methodist Serving Committee is a “many-splendored thing.” Through shared hope, faith and example, this division ministers to neighbors, both in our community and around the world. Its goal is to plant seeds of encouragement and Christian
love.
Our serving teams include many local and foreign missions, health and welfare, and the older adult ministry. The areas of service include an Angel Tree at Christmas for underprivileged children; construction of a new cabin at Camp Lake Stephens; prison ministry; building a
house every two years for Habitat for Humanity; Hannah’s House for abused and neglected children; Helping Hands clearing house; a re-cycling program; United
Methodist Committee on Relief; Partner in Progress with Union Academy; White Christmas baskets; and funding for Bethany Christian Services, Dial-A-Bus, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Columbus Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, MUW Wesley Foundation and CONTACT Help Line. Our foreign missions include a building program, Bible School, and medical assistance in Huitzapula, Mexico; and hosting several children for a month from the fallout area of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Belarus to help lengthen their life expectancy.
Our health and welfare team focuses are the Good Samaritan Clinic and United Blood Services.Jesus said, “Whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.” (KJV) The Serving Committee endeavors to follow this command.
